Matt Leve is Tula’s senior physical therapist with over 20 years of professional experience. He has been practicing at Tula Physical Therapy & Wellness since 2003. He has extensive experience in orthopedic and neurological physical therapy. He also enjoys helping clients who are pursuing general wellness.
Raised in Rochester, NY Matt completed his undergraduate training in agricultural engineering at Cornell University in 1991 and his physical therapy training at the University of Montana in 2000. He earned his Feldenkrais® Method certification at the New York Feldenkrais Institute in 2015.
After losing his father during sophomore year in college Matt came to realize that when life is so fragile it is not acceptable to simply pursue the usual. He sought deeper knowledge in studying eastern philosophy, training martial arts and exploring the outdoors. After sustaining several injuries he ultimately shifted his focus to the internal arts such as tai chi and chose a path in physical therapy and the Feldenkrais Method.
Matt sees himself as an educator above all other roles. His approach to physical therapy is unique in that he integrates principles of tai chi and Feldenkrais with traditional physical therapy. Through conscious movement training Matt helps his clients identify and improve their habitual movement patterns. His work can benefit anyone who is open to becoming conscious of what they are doing. Ultimately his goal is for his clients to develop greater resilience and to learn that they hold within themselves the knowledge to realize their full potential.
In his free time Matt enjoys a daily tai chi and fitness practice and he teaches group and private tai chi classes in his neighborhood Jackson Heights. He enjoys spending time with his wife exploring the city, cooking and baking, supporting his local farmer’s market, watching anime, writing and of course, spending occasional time outdoors.
